Tips for Outdoor Learning Spaces
A walk in nature walks the soul back home.
– Mary Davis
Here is another outdoor classroom sustainability tip featured in the Nature Explore e-newsletter, from the book, Keeping it Growing:
Tip: Use a variety of communication strategies and advocacy tools to inform your network about the value and benefits of your outdoor classroom.
Why this is important: When your mission statement clearly communicates how your outdoor classroom supports and enhances your ability to meet your goals, it also helps all stakeholders recognize the importance.
Recommendations:
- Use newsletters and local press to highlight your program’s successes and needs.
- Give tours of your outdoor classroom, inviting local community leaders.
- Develop a webpage dedicated to your outdoor classroom to share photos, post a wish list of materials, and recognize donors and volunteers.
- Build a community. Challenges can become opportunities to build community partnerships.
