Teacher, author and advocate Francis Wardle explores how environment, materials, pre-conceived notions and teacher background can affect what possibilities are available to children, impacting how they learn and grow. Open play with materials encouraging physical engagement, construction and movement supports boys -and girls- in their growth and development. Since the majority of early childhood professionals are women, it is all the more important to involve men in programs and activities whenever possible, and reach beyond traditionally masculine or feminine play experiences to provide a deep and wide variety of materials, environments and approaches to engage boys – and girls as well- and help everyone thrive.
