Author Carol Garboden Murray explores the meaning, value and power of care as a pedagogy and practice in the education of young children. Care is given and received through teachers’ relational encounters with children, providing opportunities for growth and connection throughout each day. The custodial and maintenance work of care, from mealtime and rest, to dressing and toilet learning, is educational and meaningful as children grow and learn. Trust, compassion, connection and community all grow from embracing care as an attitude, and honoring the caring encounter. As an ethic in human society, care is expansive and inclusive, interdependence is our natural state.
