What is the best advice to teachers about creating outdoor learning spaces? The secret is to focus on immediate, achievable goals. One of the First Environments designers, Nilda Cosco of the Natural Learning Initiative at North Carolina State University, says, “Like children, you don’t do all of the teaching at once, because it’s not proper. It’s the same here. So, it’s good for programs to start small. Try two or three planters to test the waters. Go out and enjoy.”
