The teacher spins a lid on its vertical axis. As the lid spins upright, Lou, sitting down, sways back and forth. Then Blake, as the spinning lid winds down flat on the floor, bobs his head and torso up and down. In this case, the swaying and the bobbing are the children’s attempts to understand the spinning lids by re-presenting that movement in a medium more familiar to them, the movement of their own bodies.
