I knew that for the children to connect to the trees and animals in our community the teachers needed to find a connection to nature as well. As a director, finding ways to deepen my relationship with nature would become my quest for the next two decades. We learned how to work with soil, create a worm bin, and use plants as art in our classroom. The experience led the teachers to be inspired and bring forth learning opportunities in their classrooms. The windows in their classrooms became magnifying glass to the outside world where all things in the environment became a source of inquiry and curiosity; rain, wind, soil, trees, shrubs, and worms were explored. Children’s books that explored these elements filled the bookshelves and spaces were created to take a closer look at nature.
