As I read through From “Teaching to Thinking”, I felt reflective, inspired and renewed. I was reminded that some of my best times as a community college instructor are when I am engaged in dialogue with others; imagining a bright future for children and their families and considering our role in supporting teachers to help make that vision real. I was appalled to read that following her graduate studies, Ann’s department chair attempted to prevent Ann from pursuing a calling to teach children, thinking such a choice was beneath her. This pushed me to consider questions that matter most to me as an educator.
