Conventional birthday celebrations in the classroom normally involve adults taking charge and organizing the event, relegating children to the role of mere attendees. At our school, we have birthday committees. We involve the students in the design and creation of a celebration. The committee engages in a discussion about the birthday child’s preferences and interests, resulting in a surge of creative concepts. The committee shares their collective vision with the rest of the class, unveiling the exciting plans for a celebration that is a unique manifestation of creativity for the birthday child.
