People in the world are struggling. As crisis after crisis unfolds, the airwaves are filled with stories that reflect a lack of kindness, empathy, and compassion among people. Yet, we are hopeful because we spend our days with very young children. Everyday our group of toddlers shows us their deep desire for loving connections, and have the dispositions and skills to grow caring relationships. Toddlers have a notorious reputation for being self-centered, and not knowing how to get along with others. There are many professional resources focused on techniques to “teach” children what to do and not do in social situations. Instead, our team focuses on noticing, studying, and calling on what the children already understand about caring and cultivating relationships.
