“At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child’s success is the positive involvement of parents.”
—Jane Hull, Former Governor of Arizona

Through the years, the focus of early childhood programs has evolved with increased focus on supporting families and promoting family engagement (NAEYC, n.d.; Mahoney et al., 2020). Further, NAEYC’s “Code of Ethical Conduct and Statement of Commitment” calls for early childhood practitioners to “listen to families, acknowledge and build upon their strengths and competencies, and learn from families as we support them in their task of nurturing children” (NAEYC, 2011a). To best serve the children and their families in our programs, we must act as true partners.
