Like every café anywhere in the world, Bonnie’s Global Café enjoys the patronage of “regulars,” customers who return frequently to relax and enjoy whatever is on today’s menu. There is something powerful that happens to our regulars—they not only belong here, but they understand that BGCafé belongs to them, too. They take responsibility for welcoming first timers and for enriching each conversation with their personal experiences and perspectives. During these challenging times, meaningful conversations create connections. Each of us needs to feel visible and valued as part of a community that matters. We feel our spirits lifting. Together we can do anything. Come to Bonnie’s Global Café. We are waiting for you.

Sharing Stories of Our Mentors

Each of us is who and where we are because a person or people recognized something precious in us and nurtured us in a special way.  We are shaped by teachers, mentors, friends, family members.  During our conversation in BGCafé, Nicolas Galindo shared how El Día de los Muertos is celebrated in México, and Ivan Galindo began our tributes to mentors by talking about the influence of his Father in shaping his character.  As you follow the link to hear these stories, reflect on the mentors and ancestors who stand behind you.

Play and Well-Being

We know that play has purpose and is the lifeblood of childhood. And we’ve all felt the impact of Covid-19 on how and where we play.  During this conversation about play we listened to perspectives from Barbara Easton, Canada; Elsa Chahin, México/US; Ute Strub, Germany; Kevin Carnes, US; Amrita Jain, India; Margaret Akinware, Nigeria and others.  Ute reminded us that “in every human lives a child who wants to play.”

Culture and Fashion – What We Wear and Why

What we wear tells part of our story.  There are messages embedded in the choices we make, historical and cultural considerations, respect for self and others.  During this special Fashion Show, several participants arrived in beautiful and meaningful attire.  Mukunda Kshetree and his son, Nepal; Karma Gayleg, Bhutan; Margaret Akinware and Omolara Otujo, Nigeria; Patsy Pillay and Danny Moodliyar, South Africa; Vishakha Deshpande, India; Vickie Calderon, Philippines and US; Shareen Ratnani, Indonesia; and Janis Adkins, US each took a turn down the runway.

Training Teachers for Virtual Learning

BGCafé welcomed diners’ focus on supporting teachers in being effective and fulfilled, as they work through new ways of working and being with children. Sam Hall, Boulder Journey School, United States, and Shareen Ratnani, Kiddie Planet Montessori, Indonesia, helped us see the possibilities for creating the future of our work to care and educate the children we love and to develop new ways of supporting their families.
