The reality is that high-quality, job-embedded supports, including coaching and tools to support lesson planning and delivery, are not part of the average professional development system for Jada and her colleagues in early learning settings. The system mostly lacks the resources, including funds and time, for the kind of support that Jada and her peers across the nation need. But, despite this scenario, there are ways to substantially improve the professional learning system and the opportunities that are available. Moreover, it is possible to do it within the constraints of the current system, by addressing some common roadblocks or pitfalls that make the difference between status quo and high-impact professional learning.
