To me, daycare suggests supervision, instead of education. Daycare sounds like a place where children are warehoused rather than one where they are engaged in intentional experiences that center both care and learning. Daycare sounds, to me, like a place of last resort for parents in desperate need of someone to watch their children. To me, daycare is an outdated, even derogatory term that does not reflect the early childhood community. When I hear daycare the acronym that comes to mind is: Directing All Young Children And Rarely Educating!
