In the United States, early childhood has only recently been included with any consistency in conversations about publicly-funded education. In this essay, I add my own voice to the chorus of voices calling for public investment (federal, state, local) in early childhood education. My central argument is that, at their core, early childhood and K-12 education are both oriented toward similar goals, and therefore deserve similar levels of public attention and investment.
