About Maurice Sykes (Edit profile)

Maurice Sykes (1945-2025) served as executive director of the Early Childhood Leadership Institute at the University of the District of Columbia’s National Center for Urban Education, where he was the recipient of the Marjorie Holloman Parker Distinguished Educator Award. He was inducted into the DC Hall of Fame Society for his numerous contributions to the field of early childhood education. He wrote the book, Doing the Right Thing for Children: Eight Qualities of Leadership, and co-edited the book, Child Care Justice: Transforming the System of Care for Young Children. He was inducted into the DC Hall of Fame Society for his numerous contributions to the field of early childhood education.
