10 Ways to Increase Positive Behaviors
Raise your words, not voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.
– Rumi
We’ve heard from program directors and college professors that the Exchange Reflections, “10 Ways to Increase Positive Behaviors,” has led to some great discussions and a few lively debates.
Based on an article by Angela Percival-Porter, the Reflections encourages early childhood educators to reflect on their personal teaching philosophy and what intentional steps they take to support positive behavior.
Here’s one example of the food-for-thought that Percival-Porter provides in the Reflections:
“Ask Questions to Prompt
‘Hmmm, I wonder where this toy truck goes?’ ‘Does anyone know where this book belongs?’ ‘I wonder which activity is next?’ ‘Is it outside time or lunch time?’ Questions can smooth transitions and invite children to share their ideas and opinion.”
