Finding Self Compassion

There’s no amount of self improvement that can make up for a lack of self acceptance.
– Robert Holden

Tamar Jacobson’s insightful article, “Self Compassion,” forms the basis of an Exchange Reflections that many groups of people, from college students, members of professional organizations, administrative staff to classroom educators have found valuable. Here’s food for thought from the article:

“Self-compassion helps me become more aware of why I do what I do authentically and intentionally. If I find myself cautioning children who try to do something challenging, it probably has something to do with how I was not trusted to do things when I was a child. Therefore, I become more aware of how or why I blurt out things to children, and I am able to choose responses that are more helpful or appropriate for children’s development.”
