Yasmina Vinci, Executive Director of National Head Start Association, continues to send messages to all of us in the early care and education field, urging us to keep advocating for Head Start. Here are excerpts from a recent communication:

“We are marking the 60th anniversary of Head Start, a visionary initiative born in 1965 to give children from low-income families a better start in life through early education, health, nutrition, and family support. Since then, more than 40 million children and families have been served—each one a reminder of what’s possible when we invest in our youngest learners.

“The fight for funding Head Start properly so it can do the job is still ahead – and I hope you will stay as involved and responsive to various calls for action.”

Yasmina’s appeal is another example of how Exchange community members support each other. Please keep inviting colleagues/friends to join the community.

National Association for the Education of Young Children also sent this urgent request: “The House of Representatives could vote as early as this week to send budget legislation to the Senate for consideration that threatens deep cuts to programs that provide critical supports for early childhood educators and the families with young children they serve, including Medicaid, SNAP, Pell Grants and other critical safety net programs.

“We urge you to tell your members of Congress to protect and invest in early childhood education and educators, and all families with young children.”
