Honoring the Inspirational Life of Maurice Sykes

When news of his recent death reached us, we at Exchange Press wanted to honor Maurice Sykes and his positive influence on the early care and education field by making an article and video he created for Exchange accessible to all, free of charge.
Maurice served as executive director of the Early Childhood Leadership Institute at the University of the District of Columbia’s National Center for Urban Education, where he was the recipient of the Marjorie Holloman Parker Distinguished Educator Award. He was inducted into the DC Hall of Fame Society for his numerous contributions to the field of early childhood education. He wrote the book, Doing the Right Thing for Children: Eight Qualities of Leadership, and co-edited the book, Child Care Justice: Transforming the System of Care for Young Children. He was inducted into the DC Hall of Fame Society for his numerous contributions to the field of early childhood education.
