Humor Can Uplift Us In Hard Times
I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t laugh.
– Maya Angelou
During the 2020 pandemic, Bryan E. Robinson, wrote a Psychology Today article encouraging us to use humor to get through challenging times. His words are as relevant today as they were five years ago. He explained that “laughter reverses hormonal changes brought on by cortisol and other stress-related chemicals. It activates the secretion of endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine — the body’s natural painkillers—and you feel better in minutes. Scientists say that laughter gives your body some of the same benefits as moderate physical exercise. Studies show that laughing—even fake laughing—for just one minute a day dampens stress, eases pain, lowers blood pressure, stokes your immune system, and brightens your mental outlook.”
The Exchange Reflections, Humor: Seriously Important encourages teams or individuals to consider how they could bring more healthy humor into their workplace, as well as how they could support it with children.
