Preventing Teacher Burnout

All lives have times of difficulty. Reading history confirms that. It also teaches that people who found the most joy in life were the ones who looked for it in all circumstances.
– Nancy Rosenow, Encouragement Every Day

It Matters: Early Childhood Mental Health, Educator Stress, and Burnout” is the name of an online article by Rachel Stein, Megan Gary and Anh Nguyen on the National Library of Medicine Website.

The authors explain, “Research has demonstrated that there are systemic and individual factors that can support ECEs and mitigate some of the challenges and stress that they face. Workplace environment, particularly the perceived level of social support, appears to be one of the biggest driving factors of ECE wellbeing (Kwon et al., 2021). For instance, there is evidence that having more resources, positive co-worker relationships, and supportive administration (Zinsser et al., 2015) lessens ECE stress and burnout.

“Understanding how important supportive administrators are, Exchange created an Exchange Reflections, “Preventing Teacher Burnout,” based on an article by Ellen Drolette. This Reflections has been designed to help you have reflective conversations with staff or fellow administrators about self-care, intentional practice, maintaining positivity, healthy environments and advocating for mental health.

And if you’re looking for a supportive gift for staff or colleagues as the summer approaches, we are offering a chance to buy Encouragement Every Day for 25 percent off.
