Tips for Outdoor Learning Spaces
In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect. Trees can be contorted, bent in weird ways, and they’re still beautiful.
– Alice Walker
Last month, we shared an outdoor classroom sustainability tip featured in the Nature Explore e-newsletter. Here is another great tip from the book, Keeping it Growing:
Tip: Strengthen your family involvement strategies
Why this is important: As families develop an awareness of the unique benefits the outdoor classroom provides their children, they are more likely to make a personal investment in the sustainability of your space.
Recommendations:
- Your outdoor classroom may be an ideal space to host family events that you already provide. These may include open house evenings, beginning-of-the-year kickoff parties, family scavenger hunts, and picnics!
- Form your own “Nature Club” and invite families to participate once a month, or as often as it makes sense for your program. This is an opportunity for families to come together, play outside, and get more connected with nature.
