Tips for Outdoor Learning Spaces
Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky.
– Kahlil Gibran
Here is another outdoor classroom sustainability tip featured in the Nature Explore e-newsletter, from the book, Keeping it Growing:
Celebrate the accomplishments and contributions that support the goals and philosophy of your outdoor classroom.
Why this is important:
Taking time to celebrate success stories keeps staff members motivated and focused on the positive impact they are making. Celebration nourishes self-esteem. It helps frame challenges as opportunities for growth.
Recommendations:
- At the beginning of each staff meeting, ask a few staff members to share a recent success story.
- Host a monthly coffee for families, and help them celebrate children’s wonderful work in the outdoor classroom.
- Highlight great teacher moments in weekly staff messages and in family communications.
- Post documentation of significant moments in areas that are visible.
