In many communities, the special training and supplies needed to implement the Montessori method have made it costly and inaccessible for low-income families. However, with support from a unique partnership with the Montessori Center of Minnesota, Centro Tyrone Guzman successfully restructured its preschool to implement the Montessori method in 2012. The result? A decade-long kindergarten readiness rate of 100 percent, even while targeting children who have historically been some of the least prepared for kindergarten: low-income Latine children who speak Spanish at home. Centro believes that great educational opportunities should not be limited to the economically thriving communities, and we take great pride in making sure the Latine community is set up for success during this very crucial learning period.
