While it is typical for afterschool programs to provide some activities during the short program hours, it is often a challenge for staff to redevelop the program as they switch from an after school program to a full day summer camp. Even when children have been attending an afterschool program all year, it is important to recognize that school-age children have very different needs in a full day program. This article will highlight some of the challenges and opportunities that providers may encounter as they transition from a program that runs a couple of hours after school, to a full day summer program.
