About Ben Wilson
I was born in San Antonio, Texas on May 28, 1999. I was diagnosed with autism when I was 18 months old. My family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to enroll me in a well-known autism therapy program that had wonderful results when I was 2 years old. The program was called the Lovaas Program and it used ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) techniques. I was a part of the program for six years.
I attended Dimensions Education Programs at First Plymouth Church when I was 4 and 5 years old. I attended Blessed Sacrament grade school in Lincoln. I graduated from Pius X high school in Lincoln in 2018.
While I was a student at Pius high school, I volunteered as a helper in the kindergarten classroom at Blessed Sacrament School (with my old teacher), which was when I realized I wanted to have a career working with preschoolers.
I also spent my summers at Lake Okoboji, Iowa with my family and was a camper at a YMCA camp called Camp Foster. I started as a day camper when I was four years old. I was a camper every summer until I was 14 years old when I was hired to be a counselor in the day camp program. I have worked as a day camp counselor every summer since, and this will be my 20th summer at camp.
I graduated from Southeast Community College - Lincoln with a degree in Early Childhood Education in December 2021.
I have worked as a Preschool Para-educator at Dimensions Education Programs for almost two years.
I feel so blessed to have been able to go to Dimensions as a child; now I’m able to work with some of the same teachers that taught me when I was a preschooler. It’s the best place in the world to work. I feel so lucky that I’m able to have such a big impact on the children I work with.
I am also a “calendar savant.:” If you give me a date from 800 years in the past through 300 years into the future, I can tell you on what day of the week it was. For any given date this year I can tell you how many days until that date. I also have a massive memory. For example, once you tell me your birthday, I will never forget it. Because of these gifts, I was featured on a national program called The UnXplained, staring William Shatner. It aired on the History Channel, and you can still watch it on Netflix. It was during Season 4 Episode 2 and the episode is called “The Mystery of Genius.”
I am so blessed to be able to work at Dimensions with some of the finest educators, making a big impact on our students and staff.
