About Denise Rueter

Denise Rueter graduated from Louisiana State University in December 2022 with a doctorate in curriculum and instruction with a focus on early childhood literacy. Prior to obtaining her Ph.D, Rueter worked in public schools for 15 years as a classroom teacher and literacy coach for students in preK through grade two. She spent six years teaching kindergarten and reading intervention in North Carolina, where she also received her master's from North Carolina State University. Following this, Rueter relocated to New Orleans, where she spent nine years working at a charter school. There, she taught kindergarten, second grade, and reading intervention. After three years, she transitioned to the administrative role of literacy coach and worked daily with teachers to develop their pedagogical knowledge and instructional practices in reading and writing. Rueter plans to become a full-time professor and help prepare pre-service teachers in literacy instruction.
